Bahrain registered the highest mobile phone penetration rate in the Arab world in the year 2005. Its penetration rate recorded at 105.8 percent followed by the UAE at 99pc, the Arab Advisors Group’s release reported. The report also states that the UAE and Bahrain had the highest fixed line penetration rates last year, which figured at 27 percent and 26.6 percent respectively. Serene Zawaydeh, the consultant of Arab Advisors Group (AAG) commented,
The Arab cellular markets are growing at a high pace, while the fixed line markets are stagnating.The coming of new operators and raising competition last year, subscribers for 39 recognized mobile phone operators in eighteen Arab countries touched 84.844 million.
