Here is some good news for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) mobile phone users. Government owned Telecom Company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has launched ‘TV in mobile handset’ service in India. The service will allow BSNL broadband customers to enjoy TV on their GSM mobile handsets.

Apalya Technologies has partnered with BSNL to provide TV signals on BSNL enabled mobile handsets. With the ‘TV in mobile handset’ service, BSNL GSM customers will be able to watch 12 television channels, including NDTV, CNBC, Aajtak, Times Now, Zoom, Bindaas, ETV and TV9 on their compatible mobile devices.

However, by the end of 2007, BSNL aims to incorporate a total of 32 channels in the ‘TV in mobile handset’ service.

Initially, the BSNL ‘TV in mobile handset’ service would be available on selected Nokia handsets. Later, the service would be extended to Sony Ericsso and Motorola handsets. In order to view the TV content via their mobile phones, BSNL customers will have to go to the mobi.tv website via their phones. The BSNL ‘TV in mobile’ service will be free for the next 30 days. The service is available in three plans:

1) A per day plan for Rs 10/- : Customer can enjoy one channel for 24 Hrs.
2) A Per month plan for Rs 50/- : Customer can enjoy one channel for 30 days.
3) A Per month plan for Rs 150/- : Customer can enjoy all channels for 30 days

Currently, the service is available in the eastern and north-eastern regions of India.
