China Mobile Communications is about to acquire Millicom International Cellular in a $5.3 billion deal. The deal is expected to enhance the Chinese company’s dominance in the emerging global telecom market.
The largest wireless phone company in China, China Mobile which is also the biggest in the world in terms of subscribers would get wireless assets in Latin America, Africa and South Asia by engaging with Luxenbourg-based Millicom.
However, the Chinese telecom giant is yet to sign a deal with Millicom. Millicom is an undisputed telecom leader. It has some 10 million customers and controls useful licenses in sixteen developing countries like Bolivia, El Salvador, Chad and Cambodia.
