It would be yet another major victory of mobile technology. Just a few days ago, we were all informed about Nokia’s latest exploration on mobile technology to protect people from lightening strike.
The Japanese mobile operators are now on a mission to develop an early-warning system to alert the cell phone users about the possible earthquake occurrence.
We no need to explain the importance of an early-warning system in the quake prone country like Japan. Taking an exemplary step, the two leading mobile operators, NNT DoCoMo and KDDI are working together to develop a system to alert the cell phone users of earthquake in advance. Softbank is also working on a similar project independently.
The mobile operators will collect information from the meteorological department and pass them to the cell phone users of an imminent earthquake. The new system may be operating in the next few months.
The mobile operators have not disclosed the mode of sending the meteorological messages to the masses.
However, they have clarified that the new system will not use email service because it may create networking problem.
