Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has launched the world’s first 1.8-volt high-speed USB 2.0 programmable microcontroller. The new MoBL-USB FX2LP18 controller delivers the fast downloading of music files and photos and videos in mobile handsets.

Without the help of high speed USB it takes 30-40 seconds to download the music files, while with the help of new Cypress solution, it takes only 2-3 seconds.

The new MoBL-USB FX2LP18 controller is expanding the family MoBL-USB products from Cypress recently introduced MoBL-USB TX2 transceiver with additional features.

It has a 1.8 volt core and supports an I/O voltage range of 1.8-3.3 V to interface with several generations of baseband processor application processors, ASICs and ASSPs.

It takes the advantage of Cypress’s 0.13-micron C8 process technology to slash dynamic and stand by power consumption of about 80%.

The MoBL-USB FX2LP18 controller is able to operate in an industrial temperature of about -40 degrees C to +850 degrees C. It consumes the standby current of about 20uA while for competing solutions it consumes 160uA.

The device is a fully integrated peripheral controller, which includes:

1. 8051 microprocessor

2. A serial interface engine

3. A high-speed USB 2.0 transceiver

4. On-chip RAM and FIFO

5. A general programmable interface

It features a data rate of 480 Mbps, 16 Kbytes of on-chip memory, and 24 programmable I/Os, Cypress’s MoBL-USB FX2LP18 solution provides world-class design flexibility.
