The D.C government wants to set up a free wireless Internet system for the low income group residents over the city and has asked companies to bid for it. The service may not cover the entire city like Philadelphia and San Francisco as the priority of the program as the priority of the program is to serve low income groups with free web access along with free computing and learning.



To lure the subscribers in not so lucrative plan The District plans to offer the winning company an exclusive eight-year long franchise so that they can attach wireless devices to District-owned all street lights and buildings.
