The grapevine has it that Google may set aside its Google phone idea to get into wireless business, most probably next year.

A company spokesperson has divulged that the search engine giant is keen to win the wireless spectrum in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) auction, which is taking place next year.

Richard Whitt of Google said that the company has not ruled in or out participating in the auction as a licensee.

Apparently, Whitt is looking at the forthcoming FCC auction of wireless spectrum in the 700MHz band that can transmit signals for long distances brining down costs of building a network.

Supposes Google wins the auction, it will build its own network and provide wireless services directly to the users.
