mobile credit card platform

JCB Co. has developed the credit card software. Now Japan’s second-largest mobile phone operator, KDDI Corp is ready to sell mobile phones that contain credit card software.

KDDI is panning to launch these models as soon as possible. Card companies such as Credit Saison Co. and Toyota Finance Corp. also support the platform.

KDDI is giving competition to NTT DoCoMo Inc., which has already developed mobile credit card platform with Sumitomo Mitsui Card Co. KDDI, JCB and other companies are offering credit payment services to mobile phones.

DoCoMo is holding 56 percent of the country’s 93 million mobile phone subscriber market, while KDDI is holding only 28 percent.

Users have to download the software to use this service. Users can swipe their mobile credit card in any restaurants and retailers to pay bills electronically.
