According to this article in The Observer, a mobile company is showing no heart to turn cancel the account of a murder victim.

The story in brief: Penny Holloway and Jim Devlin’s son Thomas (15) was murdered on his way back home in Belfast. Still no arrests have been made due to lack of witnesses though police believe that many in the community know who did this and made fresh appeals.

Well, the couple’s misery didn’t end there. After Thomas’s death, they struggled to end the contract on their son’s mobile phone. Jim had taken out a 12-month contract for Thomas with Carphone Warehouse. The police confiscated the phone as evidence in their investigation. But Penny and Jim still had to pay monthly for something that was of no use to them. ‘We have our own phones and we could not use up the minutes and texts we were paying for.’

Even after many letters to the company, it is still not responding.

So what does this show? The company’s total disregard for human emotions - in this case, a grieving couple over their young son’s murder being denied to terminate the contract of subscription - tells a story in itself.
