Australia’s Minister for Information and Communication, Marsha Thomson said that a new mobile technology would ensure that the 90,000 or so visitors expected in the XVIII Commonwealth Games could find their way to events and entertainment.
Up to 60 volunteers at key locations throughout the city will provide tear-away maps and SMS instructions for any queries received.
She says;
Even if you just want to know where a specific type of restaurant is, the Directions Plus volunteers can locate any restaurant category and tell tourists the quickest way to get there.
The volunteers will be wearing distinctive navy uniforms with an orange Directions Plus logo, will be at key locations around the city and Games venues to help.
The Games start on March 15 and will close on March 26. It will solve one of the most common problems faced by foreign games tourists who always have problems with directions as well as local guidance. Besides, it is well-known that even locals get fed-up on being asked again and again for directions by tens of thousands of people and often lose tempers. This is a very good move indeed.
