Faced with falling attendance in movie theatres, theatre owners are contemplating asking federal authorities for permission that will allow them to install cell-phone signal jammers in the theatres to cut down the annoying conversations that often go on when a movie is running.

The head of the industry’s trade group - President of National Association of Theater Owners, John Fithian told ShoWest conference in Las Vegas;

I don’t know what’s going on with consumers that they have to talk on phones in the middle of theaters. We will actually petition the Federal Communications (Commission) to remove the block on jamming cell phones.

However, that may be difficult as federal law and FCC rules prohibit the use of cell phone jammers.

I however support this as these days the worst annoyance is when the guy sitting next to you yaps over his phone shamelessly robbing you of the entertainment. This way, you may never miss a dialogue.
