For people like me, who have been wishing to send SMS messages from their Outlook mail account, here is some news for you. General Wireless, has just announced that it plans on shipping text (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) mobile messaging PC-plugins for Microsoft(R)Vista(R) and Microsoft(R)Outlook(R)2007. For those of us who have used Yahoo chat to send sms to friends via the Yahoo messenger, this would still be news. Because while Yahoo needed you to sign in to the messenger to send an sms, General Wireless’ service can be accessed from your mail account. The new services will be called eSMS and eMMS. These plugins will be compatible with Outlook 2000, Outlook XP and Outlook 2007. According to General Wireless, anyone with an Internet connection will be able to send: text, pictures, sound and video from their PCs to someone’s mobile phone. If you’re already excited, you will have to wait till June, when they plan on shipping these to operators/cell phone network providers in Europe, it may take more time for it to reach India. It’s not a surprise that General Wireless should come up with this concept, because it was they who developed the concept of PC-to-mobile messaging, a service that can work from all PCs to all mobiles. They can already boast of being the market leader in this segment. Their customer list includes the topmost cell phone network providers like Vodafone UK, Telefonica Moviles Espana, Orange, Telecom Italia Mobile, KPN, Teliasonera and 3. Check out the General Wireless Web site for demos on how to send MMS and SMS from Internet Explorer. You can also download a trial version of the eSMS Outlook version 4.3.
