Daniel Wagner and his team under (handheld AR project) have done a demo test on an i-mate SP5 phone in March 2006 and have extended their AR project from PDAs to Smartphones where along with personal digital functionality, mobile phone and other information appliances will also be included. What exactly were used in the demo if you wish to know, (processing is done on unmodified smartphone)
• DSVideoCE (not available for public release yet) for reading the camera and converting the video stream from the native camera format YV12 to RGB565 (video background display) and gray (vision tracking).
• ARToolKitPlus for vision tracking.
• Klimt for rendering a 3D model world-aligned on top of the marker.
• FPK (not available for public release yet) our animation package for PDAs and mobile phones.
A perfect example of resident unfunded research going all right.
