Rand McNally has shown interest to build GPS phones by using Motorola Inc’s VIAMOTO navigation software. Rand McNally asserts that it is a cost effective service for the users particularly for the drivers.

The leading mapmaker Rand McNally will turn GPS supported phones into a voice-guided navigation system for drivers who are unable to install GPS navigation devices in their vehicles. Alan Yefsky, VP of new products for Rand McNally commented,

It’s a very logical place for us to go. The wireless GPS market is exploding and we see this as a significant segment.
The users can download the free software to run MONA, Rand McNally’s third navigation product for mobile phones. The users can type the destination in address using the phone’s keypad or through the internet. It will provide directions via voice.
