Although, the Interior Ministry had approved sales of mobile phone in Russia, but they seized more than 167,000 phones from Motorola. According to authorities, firstly, the phones were counterfeit, then contraband and then a health hazard and finally they have dropped.



The Interior Ministry made a public announcement of destroying 49,991 mobile phones challenging that these mobile phones are violated health standards. Motorola, the largest mobile phone suppliers in Russia are uncertain about the finding but there was no chance to prevent the destruction.



According to Russian company, RussGPS, is contending that all of Motorola’s confiscated phones violated 2003 patent. They appealed to the prosecutor to open criminal case against Motorola. Meanwhile the court will hear Motorola’s countersuit against RussGPS.



According to Sergei Kozlov, Motorola’s country director, the company is not looking for the compensation for the destroyed mobile phones. However, the company is trying to cooperate with Russian authorities and avoid such incidents in future.
