According to an Italian researcher, cell-phone emissions excite parts of the brain but he is not sure that if the effects are harmful. This report is published in the Annals of Neurology.
According to industry survey, approximately 730 million cell phones are sold this year and approx 2 billion people use the cell-phones. More than 500 million people use cell phones, which emit electromagnetic fields known as Global System for Mobile communications or GSM radiophones.
Dr. Paolo Rossini of Fatebenefratelli hospital is using the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to check the function of brain of people while using cell phones in Milan.
The 15 young male volunteers using a GSM 900 cell phone for 45 minutes. Among them 12, the cells in the motor cortex adjacent to the cell phone showed excitability during phone use but returned to normal within an hour. The cortex is the outside layer of the brain. The motor cortex is known as the ‘excitable area’ because magnetic stimulation has been shown to cause a muscle twitch.
According to Swedish researchers, the using of cell-phone may cause brain tumor.
According Japanese mobile operators, they did not find any evidence that radio waves harm the brain.
