broadband service

Broadband service may be one of the fast growing consumer products in the UK. However, the current state of broadband service in the country is quite discouraging with half of the internet users receiving very low speed broadband service than the advertised speed by the service providers.

A survey conducted by Computeractive in collaboration with BroadbandChoices and Thinkbroadband.com has brought the grim figure revealing nearly 62 percent of UK broadband persistently receive less than 50 per cent of the advertised speed to which they registered. Only a quarter of users receive their maximum advertised speed.

More than 100,000 speed tests were conducted with 3,000 internet users to determine customers’ average net-browsing speed on ADSL lines. It found out more than half of broadband users get ADSL services at speeds between one and four megabits per second (mbps).

According to this report, Computeractive, BroadbandChoices and Thinkbroadband.com have started the Crystal Clear Broadband campaign to insist Ofcom and the broadband industry to improve clarity in broadband contracts for UK internet users.
