
The Verizon wireless, a joint venture between Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group PLC has decided to deploy a version of web media technology known as ‘Flash’ to boost the visual content delivered to its cell phones.
The software named Flash Lite for BREW has been developed by Adobe Systems Inc. and Qualcomm Inc. the popular website ‘YouTube’ also uses this software as Adobe’s Flash programming platform is best known as a tool for livening up Web pages with richer graphics and interactive features.
The Verizon Wireless says it is the first to do so in North America.
Like many other in the industry, Verizon Wireless has invested billions of dollars in network upgrades in a bid to boost revenue by selling non-voice services to its phone subscribers. But it is still not clear how much demand will there be of this service.
