Verizon is appealing international business class customers by offering them BlackBerry to use their phone overseas. Verizon Wireless, Sprint have introduced BlackBerry 8830 e-mail phone, which can be used overseas also.
Verizon’s BlackBerry 8830 is similar to AT&T’s BlackBerry 8800, but Verizon’s BlackBerry comes with Verizon Wireless’s network. Verizon Wireless uses Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology with Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network. The BlackBerry works on both CDMA and GSM technology, so that users can make phone calls as well as send and receive e-mails in almost every country. The 8830 also supports Verizon Wireless’ high-speed EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) data network and GSM’s slower General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) data service. The BlackBerry 8830 comes with media player, MicroSD card slot with expanded memory, speaker phone and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

Verizon Wireless locks the phones, so that users can not simply remove the SIM card, which allows users to use GSM networks. But it allows users to pay third parties in order to use a SIM card from another operator. Users, who have signed up for Global BlackBerry service, they can use unlimited e-mail in US, Canada and more than 60 countries.
The company has already offered two other mobile phones and a PDA, which also operates on both CDMA and GSM networks. The cost of Verizon’s BlackBerry is US$300 after a $100 rebate, with a 24-month contract.
