Wayfinder Systems of late signed a definitive agreement with one of the world’s top five mobile handset makers on the pre-installation of Wayfinder’s navigational services in up- next models. As a result of the contract, Wayfinder’s services will be set in forthcoming handsets with integrated GPS functionality.
Magnus Nilsson, CEO, Wayfinder Systems, was quoted as saying,
For Wayfinder Systems this is a milestone as it considerably increases the number of handsets with Wayfinder’s services installed. Today, more than 700 000 users have downloaded and used Wayfinder’s products. As sales of the upcoming models take off, Wayfinder’s user base has the potential to multiply several times.
Magnus Nilsson further added,
We have previously been pre-loaded on a number of handsets where users have been triggered to buy a GPS separately in order to experience the benefits of our applications. With the pre-installation of Wayfinder’s services on GPS enabled handsets one cumbersome step in extending our services to end-users is eliminated.
Jack Reinelt, COO and Managing Director, Tele Atlas EMEA,
At Tele Atlas we are excited to be part of yet another successful company within the area of mobile navigation and location based services.
Magnus Nilsson concludes,
With some operators in Europe we are already seeing a dramatic increase in up-take of our services when users are purchasing phones with built-in GPS. We have seen up-take rates in excess of 50% in some cases. Although our initial up-take figures are encouraging, it is however still too early to draw any reliable conclusions from these numbers.
