With a view to give tough challenge to its traditional rival Google in the mobile search market, Yahoo! has expanded the reach of its oneSearch service in the USA supporting almost 85 percent of the mobile devices.
The California-based search giant explains the oneSearch service is all set to revolutionize the mobile search arena by improving the way consumers’ access and use the Internet on their mobile phones.
As known earlier, the oneSearch service is part of a Yahoo! Go search which was available to very selective mobile phones. It is now available nearly 85 percent of all web-supported mobile phones enabling customers to get desired search results just one search, not a list of web links.
Mike McGuire, an analyst at Gartner says,
This is not a knock on Google per se, but Yahoo has taken that a very specific starting point — your town or neighborhood. The context of many mobile phone searches is going to be very local. That starting point is key, like road traffic in my area.
In oneSearch service, search results are presented as a series of contextually relevant links and ads, rather than traditional web search links.
To boost the oneSearch service, Yahoo! has accorded deals with four major mobile phone manufacturers. They are Motorola Inc., Nokia, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and LG Electronics Inc.
