US largest telecommunications group, AT&T has introduced its first Wi-Fi broadband Internet services, named Muni Wi-Fi, a citywide wireless service across a 3-square-mile portion of Riverside, which includes downtown Riverside, Hunter Technology Park and the Adams Auto Center. The company has partnered with a leading provider of free wireless Internet access, MetroFi, to build the Reverside Network, which uses Wi-Fi mesh technology deployed on city-owned poer poles and other departments. The mesh, wireless broadband Internet access network in Riverside, which includes both a consumer and business solution and municipal public safety network that can be used by citywide agencies. , AT&T Metro Wi-Fi in Riverside would be the nation’s largest Wi-Fi deployment for both municipal and public use. Additionally, the Riverside city is testing the service to run the video to and from police department patrol cars. AT&T Muni Wi-Fi includes traffic monitoring and coordination, video surveillance to minimize graffiti and illegal dumping and facility security. Other countries like Philadelphia, New York and San Francisco are planning to offer Muni Wi-Fi services in collaboration with private sector participants. In the first phase of the project, it will cover a three-square-mile area that includes downtown Riverside, Hunter Technology Park and an industrial estate called the Adams Auto Center. MetroFi designed enables low income residents to access the Internet and also provides advertising supported free service. AT&T will offer a high speed Internet access for for $7.99 a day and $15.99 for a weekly pass. The Wi-Fi network is the perfect blend of high speed public safety communications, cost-effective secured government communications, and wireless broadband for consumers and business. In addition, the network provides a free wireless broadband service that is a stepping stone in our digital inclusion program working to give Internet access to all residences in Riverside.”

According to ppadala, in order to avail video programmers on phone lines, AT&T is developing there phone lines. During its earlier phase in a few parts of South California, a service known as U-verse TV will be available. It is interesting to know that channel lineups are as same as the customary cable as well as dish TV. On the other hand, AT&T is declaring that they are at the same level with their arch rivals, i.e. cable. To make things more interesting, AT&T is also claiming other attractive features, such as quick channel change, three set-top boxes, a digital video recorder, video-on-demand, and an interactive program guide. It also offers an interesting feature of picture-in-picture. According to this feature, viewers would be able to surf channels without switching channels. AT&T develops wireless software products for visually impaired
AT&T is planning to launch software products for the visually impaired. The company has partnered with Code Factory to launch two new wireless software products – Mobile Speak and Mobile Magnifier – which will work on Windows Mobile as well as Symbian Series 60 operating system devices. AT&T’s Mobile Speak supports Braille language, which allows users to use it with or without speech. The Mobile Speak speech feedback in several languages. The device is a powerful and full fledged screen reader with an easy-to-learn command structure. The Mobile Speak automatically detects the important information, which the blind user must know. The Mobile Speak has following features: 1) Speed dial, call lists and contacts lists 2) It allows users for text messaging 3) Calendar, tasks, notes and calculator 4) Internet browsing 5) It allows users to access Word, Excel and PowerPoint 6) Voice recorder, media player, voice speed dial and voice command 7)Phone/device settings, profiles, alarms and ringtones While the Mobile Magnifier is a flexible, full-screen magnification application, which supports low- and high-resolution screens. Users can use the device with or without speech feedback. Magnification software is compatible with a wide range of mobile devices. It has magnification levels from 1.25x to 16x with font flexibility. It has three different layouts, a full-screen, split and distributed view with different color schemes, including inverted color. It has automatic zoom function, which detects areas of interest on the screen.
