Cisco announced that the company has unveiled a new mobility solution, named Cisco First Mile Wireless solution for the oil and gas industry. Cisco First Mile Wireless solution is integrated with high level technologies, services, security policies and management applications. The standard Cisco First Mile Wireless solution is based on Cisco 1500 Series wireless mesh access points with specialized blast proof hardened cases. While Cisco Secure Services supports wireless network management. The solution is good combination of validated backhaul technologies with Wi-Fi bridging, WiMAX and satellite connectivity. The solution has following features: 1) The Cisco First Mile Wireless solution increases drilling uptime performance and improves in-field decision making processes. 2) It reduces the operation costs by transforming isolated drilling sites to connected arms of the headquarter corporate network. 3) The Cisco First Mile Wireless solution supports the extension and augmentation of corporate network data, which is utilized by workers who are stationed desolate oil fields and off-shore ocean oil rigs. Now, oilfields and ocean rig platforms can network SCADA controls, maintenance sensors, mobile service workers, physical security assets, service vehicles and location service tags through the Cisco First Mile Wireless solution. It also integrates mobility services, like wireless voice over IP (wVoIP), video and guest access Ben Gibson, director of mobility solutions, Cisco, said, Mobility is about empowering businesses to make better, faster and more informed business decisions. When data is confined it becomes stale, stagnant and loses its inherent value. By contrast, information that is shared creates catalysts for new ideas, methods and ways to improve processes.
