Mobile giant, Nokia has selected Infineon to supply baseband and radio frequency (RF) chips named E-GOLD voice for GSM mobile handsets. Nokia has decided to implement the highly integrated single-chip E-GOLD voice in Nokia mobile handsets. The Infineon E-GOLD voice system-on-chip solution combines a baseband processor, RF transceiver, power management unit and RAM. The E-GOLD voice solution is basically designed voice enabled mobile phones with fatured like color display, text messages, MP3 capability, ring tones and applications like integrated handsfree and speaking watch. According to Senior Vice President of Entry Business Unit, Soren Petersen, Infineon’s single chip solution will improve the power performance of Nokia’s entry level phones and reduce their size.


 
 
 

China-based ZTE picks Infineon ULC2 platform for cell phones

Infineon Technologies AG was recently reported to have said that it has been picked by China-based ZTE to supply the latter single-chip solutions for low-priced cell phones. Infineon also maintained that its ULC2 platform, which is founded on its single-chip E-Gold voice solution, would be built-into ZTE cell phones, ready for deployment in mid 2007. The Infineon ULC2 platform comes with the E-GOLDvoice system-on-chip solution, which is incorporated with radio frequency transceiver, a baseband processor, power management unit and RAM in a footprint measuring only 8 mm x 8 mm. The solution is said to have specifically been developed for voice-centric phones with characteristics such as color display, text messages and polyphonic ring tones. The platform is also built in with all the basic software to make possible shorter development time, including with GSM protocol stack and reference Man-Machine Interface brought about by Infineon.
