Cable & Wireless joins up with Inuk to offer UK’s first IPTV service

Cable & Wireless has completed a £70 million deal with Inuk Networks to provide the UK’s first converged IPTV , VoIP and broadband service. The company will also offer Inuk’s IPTV platform to other wholesale DSL customers, who want to offer digital TV to their customers. The contract allows Cable & Wireless to provide the UK’s nationwide mulitcast network, which enables the delivery of television, telephony and broadband services. The company will deliver this triple-play service through Inuk subsidiary Freewire, the company’s branded platform for the delivery of video, voice and data services. Initially, the company is focusing on the student market by offering the triple-play service to UK students in collaboration with JANET, the university backbone network. Freewire would be able to extend its market in university accommodation and into the homes across the UK using Cable & Wireless’ nationwide multicast network. The Inuk platform can be customized and delivered as a solution to other broadband service providers and network providers. The platform provides flexibility in TV, voice and converged entertainment services. According to the chief executive, Cable & Wireless Europe, Asia & US, Jim Marsh, the company is concerned to provide an excellent customer service to Inuk and other wholesale broadband customers, while the company is focusing to deliver a range of triple-play services to our collective consumers.
