Taiwan based leading electronics maker, BenQ has selected Siano Mobile Silicon, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for Mobile Digital TV (MDTV) to enable MDTV in its 3G and 2.5G mobile phones. Additionally both companies joined together for the participation in the DVB-H commercial trial. For trail basis, BenQ is using its P51 smartphones with DVB-H SDIO cards based on the Siano chip. The company has already unveiled as the fourth official sponsor for UEFA’s Euro 2008, Europe’s soccer cup games for national teams. Currently BenQ DVB-H mobile phones are designed under Siano’s SMS1010, a high performance, low power and highly integrated single chip receiver for mobile TV. Number of companies including Public Television Service Foundation (PTS), mobile operators Chunghwa Telecomm (CHT) and Taiwan Mobile (TWM), Fareastone Communications (FET), terminal makers BenQ and Motorola, and multimedia software provider CyberLink are carrying DVB-H-Trail in Taiwan. The main purpose of the DVB-H-Trail to evaluate the coverage and network structures. The DVB-H equipment and terminals also connect the end user feedback and make necessary participations for the expected commercial roll out of DVB-H.
