It does not matter whether you are in London or Munich and talking to your family over mobile phones. Come summer, you will find a spectacular fall in the mobile roaming charges in Europe. The European Union has moved up to bring down mobile phone roaming charges by 75 percent within its 27 member states by the end of this year, though there are some differences among the members regarding the new pricing structure. The new pricing structure for mobile roaming plans is meant for three years. In the first year, making calls will not exceed 49 euro cents anywhere in the EU and receiving calls 24 cents. The prices will further go down in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, the cost of making international calls will be capped at 46 euro cents and receiving 22 cents. For the third year, it would be 43 cents and 19 cents respectively. However, the mobile phone operators have strongly criticized the decision saying that market can be well regulated and controlled by competition, not by policy makers. Image
