China-based ZTE picks Infineon ULC2 platform for cell phones

Infineon Technologies AG was recently reported to have said that it has been picked by China-based ZTE to supply the latter single-chip solutions for low-priced cell phones. Infineon also maintained that its ULC2 platform, which is founded on its single-chip E-Gold voice solution, would be built-into ZTE cell phones, ready for deployment in mid 2007. The Infineon ULC2 platform comes with the E-GOLDvoice system-on-chip solution, which is incorporated with radio frequency transceiver, a baseband processor, power management unit and RAM in a footprint measuring only 8 mm x 8 mm. The solution is said to have specifically been developed for voice-centric phones with characteristics such as color display, text messages and polyphonic ring tones. The platform is also built in with all the basic software to make possible shorter development time, including with GSM protocol stack and reference Man-Machine Interface brought about by Infineon.
