Now, those who are visiting India will get broadband roaming services in India. Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL), a Tata Group company, is planning to provide roaming wireless broadband service to international travelers during their stay in India. VSNL has partnered with Singapore based Info-Communication company, StarHub, to provide the service. Prateek Pashine, vice president of VSNL announced the launch of this service on April 30, 2007. The service will provide seamless roaming and usage and allow visitors to access high-speed wireless broadband using their home country account and identity. VSNL has become the first Indian service provider to enter into a wireless broadband roaming alliance with an international operator. VSNL is already operating more than 200 Wi-Fi hotspots spread across the major cities and include chain of hotels, international airports, bookstores stadiums, educational institutes, RailTel cybercafes and shopping malls across the country. The service will allow all StarHub customers, whether mobile, broadband or cable customers to use wireless broadband services at over 200 Tata Indicom Wi-Fi Hotspots across India. VSNL is the onle Indian member in the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), a lobal consortium of the world’s leading wireless operators.
